Through living in San Francisco, you quickly learn that the "Lake Tahoe weekend getaway" is a popular option during the summer and winter months. Whether you're trying to escape the bustling city for a relaxing weekend at the lake or on the slopes, Lake Tahoe is the perfect option for both.

After just a 3 hour drive from the city, you'll find yourself in South Lake Tahoe - home to the California-Nevada state border and plenty of casinos where you can spend a fun night out. Nestled among the Tahoe pines and close to the waterfront you'll find my favorite one of them all -- The Coachman Hotel. Its lobby is thoughtfully designed to make you feel warm and cozy on a cold winter's night or cool and refreshed after a summer day's swim in the lake. They serve complimentary s'mores each night, have a hot tub that remains open year-round, and a daily happy hour right in their front lobby.

It’s the perfect mountain-lover's retreat. It's Californian, yet mountain hideaway aesthetic is exactly what you'd want when spending time in Lake Tahoe.

NORTH VS. SOUTH LAKE TAHOE

It’s important to note that North and South Lake Tahoe are quite different from each other. South Lake Tahoe is where you can find the California—Nevada state line. On the California side, you’ll be able to spend a day at El Dorado Beach overlooking the lake, take a hike in Emerald Bay State Park, or if you’re there during the winter you can spend a day skiing the slopes at Heavenly Ski Resort. If you’re looking for a little more liveliness at night, you can walk over to Nevada and spend a fun night out at the Casinos.

North Lake Tahoe is home to Palisades ski resort (formerly known as Squaw Valley), the infamous Chamber's Landing (a popular spot for aprés ski in the winter or happy hour in the summer), King's Beach and Incline Village.

If you're planning on driving or renting a car during your stay, it only takes about 45 minutes to get from one side of the lake to the other. So staying at the Coachman is a great option no matter what side of Tahoe you decide to explore!
